The transformative potential of 5G technology requires trust from stakeholders, highlighting the importance of successfully addressing a range of 5G privacy threats.
A new white paper from ISACA, 5G Privacy: Addressing Risks and Threats, provides analysis of 5G network architecture and examines the privacy features of 5G technology – and the related threats that need to be addressed.
“Along with its benefits, 5G’s expanded surface brings new privacy concerns because it could lead to very high chances of leakage of users’ personal data, revealing or leading to hints that reveal sensitive personal information,” according to the white paper. “Therefore, effective consideration of privacy characteristics is critical to building and maintaining the trust relationship of consumers with various service providers.”
Relevant privacy threats include:
- Some existing threats to previous generation cellular networks (2G, 3G and 4G networks)
- New and emerging threats to the 5G network
The white paper sizes up the privacy perspective of 5G technology, including user privacy elements related to the 5G network; 5G privacy mechanisms and regulatory means to address these threats. It also examines threats that, if unaddressed, could linger into the next generation, 6G network.
